Lindowsは、BitTorrentを使ってファイル配信

LindowsがP2PでLindowsOSを配信するってニュースがありましたが、それはBitTorrentの配信プラットフォームを使うみたい。

The digital files of the content being downloaded (like LindowsOS) come originally from the source (in this case, Lindows.com), and BitTorrent verifies data it gets from content sharers so that people who are downloading the content are guaranteed to get what they're expecting.

BitTorrentの場合、ダウンロードされたコンテンツのデジタルファイルは、ソース元から持ってこられる。で、BitTorrentは、コンテンツ所有者から手にいれたデータかを確認し、ダウンロードしているユーザーは、望んでいるものを保証される仕組み。
#デジタルファイルってのは、証明書みたいなもんかな。

Winnyとかのファイル共有の仕組みでは、例えばあるアーティストがファイル名に入っている曲をダウンロードしてきても、それがそのアーティストの曲かどうかは保証されてない。折角時間をかけて落としてもまったく異なるファイルだったりもするわけだ。BitTorrentがLindowsに提供している仕組みは、コンテンツの正しさを保証する仕組みを、オリジナルのコンテンツ所有者に確認する(デジタル認証)を通じて提供していることになるのかな。

結果、

P2Pで流通させれば50%の価格ダウンを実現できるとしている。更にP2Pの利用を拡大していくと、LindowsのPRマネージャーKira Leeは語っている。
